In The Bag: Gannon Buhr

The future of disc golf is here. His name is Gannon Buhr, and he is 17 years old. This year, he revealed himself to the world at the Las Vegas Challenge when he narrowly missed out on the title after losing in a playoff. Since then, Buhr has been a model of consistency. This year alone, Buhr already has eight top-10 finishes and has over $18K worth of earnings. Buhr is also a 2x Junior World Champion, the 2022 DGPT Rookie of the Year, the 2022 PDGA Rookie of the year, and the youngest player to ever reach 1000 rated at 14 years old. Seems like he is on a solid trajectory.

Below is a breakdown of discs in Buhr’s bag. Each disc is listed with various information and has a link to its product page on the Rogue website. The information included is the disc name, plastic type, flight numbers, disc description from Rogue or the manufacturer website, and an explanation from Buhr himself in quotes. Much of the information for this blog was gathered from Buhr’s In The Bag video on Youtube.

Putters

PA-3 – (350g x2) 3 / 4 / 0 / 2
Buhr’s putting putter. The PA-3 is a stable putt and approach disc that provides straightforward approaches to nail your putts. It’s a favorite for players of all skill levels. “These are really stiff with great grip. I really recommend those.”

A-2 – 4 / 4 / 0 / 3
The A2 is the beadless cousin of the A1. This disc is perfect for power throwers who want to avoid turning over their upshots and who need a disc that they can trust in headwinds. The A2 is still very stable, but it has a bit more glide than the A1 does. “These are extremely overstable, always reliable…No matter how much power I put on it…It always finishes on a really spikey angle.”

PA-3 – (300) 3 / 4 / 0 / 1
The PA-3 is a stable putt and approach disc that provides straight approaches to nail your putts. It’s a favorite for players of all skill levels. “I like this for sidearms specifically.”

P Model US – (Duraflex) 3 / 5 / -1 / 1
The P Model US is a straight-flying putter with a smooth, beadless rim for a comfortable grip. It’s another of the great Ace Line disc series from Prodigy. “They feel great in the hand, and they’re super torque resistant.”

PA-4 – 3 / 3 / -1 / 1
The PA-4 is an understable putt and approach disc. When thrown hard, it will turn up and finish with a long glide. It’s designed for players of all skill levels.

Mid-Ranges

Test M2 – 5 / 4 / 0 / 2
This disc is highly reliable with a stable flight path. The M2 is designed for moderate power throws that need to consistently finish to the left. “It’s just dead straight for me.”

M4 – (400g x3) 5 / 5 / -1 / 1
The M4 is a slightly understable mid in the Prodigy line. This disc is excellent for beginners, tunnel shots, and turnover throws. This disc features Easy Release Technology and is a favorite of top pros for long, controlled straight shots. “A little bit of a flippier mid-range.”

Fairway Drivers

FX-2 – (500) 9 / 4 / -1 / 3
The FX-2 is the first in the new FX Series from Prodigy. The FX Series falls in between the F and H Series, making it a faster fairway driver. The FX-2 offers a straight, long flight before a medium finish. The FX-2 is perfect for backhand and forehand throws alike. “It’s my overstable fairway. It’s just really consistent for me…I can throw it really hard on a flat line, and it never really turns over.”

F3 – (400) 7 / 5 / -1 / 2
The Prodigy F3 is a stable flying fairway driver designed for long controllable flights for players of all skill levels. This disc utilizes Prodigy’s Easy Release Technology to provide a comfortable feel and excellent distance. “It’s just a really consistent fairway driver for anything I need to go dead straight.”

F7 – (400g) 7 / 5 / -3 / 1
The Prodigy F7 is a very understable fairway driver that is great for beginners. This medium-speed driver utilizes Prodigy’s Easy Release technology. Prodigy recommends this disc for recreational players, turnover shots, and rollers. “Anything in the woods that I need a lot of hyzer… I’ll throw it on that angle and have it flip up and ride straight.”

H1 – (750) 9 / 5 / 0 / 4
The second version of the Prodigy H1 has been re-engineered to be a fast-flying but consistently overstable driver. Compared with the original H1, the V2 has a different rim. The rim depth has been reduced to provide an easier grip, while the outside edge is now sleeker and more aerodynamic to provide faster speed, more glide, and more distance. “These are insanely overstable. I probably can’t throw it over 350 feet because it’s so overstable!”

Distance Drivers

X1 – 13 / 3 / 0 / 5
The X1 is an extra overstable maximum distance Prodigy driver. Prodigy fans have been calling for a crazy overstable driver ideal for big sidearm throws, overhand shots, and very strong headwinds. The X1 is designed to make their dreams come true. Compared with the existing Prodigy Driver line, the X1 has a substantially thinner profile. “The big brother to the H1.”

Proto D1 – 12 / 5 / 0 / 3
This is a prototype D1 not yet released to the public. However, here is the description of a D1. The Prodigy D1 is an overstable, ultra-high-speed driver. While the D1 is overstable, it isn’t a “meathook” or one we would classify as “very overstable.” The D1 is a fantastic driver for power throwers, windy shots, forehand throws, and strategic doglegs.

D1 – (400s) 12 / 5 / 0 / 3
The Prodigy D1 is an overstable, ultra-high-speed driver. While the D1 is overstable, it isn’t a “meathook” or one we would classify as “very overstable.” The D1 is a fantastic driver for power throwers, windy shots, forehand throws, and strategic doglegs. “Probably the most used distance driver in my bag.”

D2 – (400g x2) 12 / 6 / -1 / 3
The Prodigy D2 is overstable but not quite as overstable as the D1. It has a higher degree of high-speed turn and slightly less low-speed fade. This driver is used by players from a variety of skill levels. “It’s that max distance bomber disc for me.”

D3 – (400 and 400g) 12 / 6 / -2 / 2
The D3 is a stable flying driver with incredible glide. Prodigy recommends this disc for hyzer flip shots, but it’s stable enough that it’s not going to turn over on powerful throws. “It’s just so consistent; that’s what I love about it.”

D4 – (400g) 12 / 6 / -3 / 2
The D4 is a slightly understable distance driver in the Prodigy line. This disc is an amazingly far-distance driver for intermediate players and disc golfers with moderate arm speed. “It’s just really flippy.”
