What’s in Drew Gibson’s Bag?

What’s in Drew Gibson’s Bag?

Drew Gibson is a man on a mission. This past off-season he signed disc golf’s first-ever “lifetime deal” with Infinite Discs. The details of the contract were not specified but Gibson said that it is guaranteed to pay out “millions of dollars.” This sponsorship affords him the luxury to throw an open bag, meaning he can throw discs from any manufacturer.

He won the first DGPT event of 2022 at the Las Vegas Challenge. He has always been one of the game’s best throwers but his putting has historically been a weak point. One of the biggest improvements to his game has been his putting over the last two seasons. This coincides with his sponsorship with putter manufacturer EV-7 and his consistent finishes at tournaments over that same time period.

Below is a breakdown of discs in Gibson’s bag. Each disc is listed with various information and has a link to its product page on the Rogue website. The information included is the disc name, plastic-type, flight numbers, disc description from RogueDiscs.com or the manufacturer’s website, and an explanation from Gibson himself in quotes. Much of the information for this blog was gathered from Gibson’s In The Bag video.

Putters & Approach

Aviar (Innova – KC Pro) 2 / 3 / 0 / 2 – The KC “Ken Climo” Aviar is an Aviar with a beaded rim. This Aviar model uses a firm pro plastic and is great for players who prefer a stiff, durable putter. The KC Aviar is more overstable than the traditional Aviar putters. This is a good disc for drives as well as short putts and is endorsed by 12-time world champion Ken Climo.

“This is definitely a staple in my bag and something I really enjoy using.”

Luna (Discraft – McBeth Blend) 3 / 3 / 0 / 3 – The Luna is a beadless, neutral-flying putter co-designed by Paul McBeth, which serves as his primary putter. It’s great for heavily wooded and open-style courses with its low glide making it great for those who putt with confidence.

“If you get it on the right line it’s going to just glide and glide and glide and keep going.”

Ruin (Infinite Discs) 3 / 3 / 0 / 3 – The Infinite Discs Ruin is the small diameter, overstable approach disc manufactured by Innova that everyone’s been waiting for! This beadless approach disc has very little glide and will start fading right out of the hand, giving your upshots perfect, predictable placement.

“It took the place of my Zone right away.”

Penrose (EV-7 – OG Medium) 2 / 4 / 0 / 2 – The Penrose is EV-7’s debut putt and approach disc. It has reliable high-speed over stability and resistance to turn but is uniquely straight with consistent fade at lower speeds on the putting green.

“It’s a very tacky but still stiff putter.”

Midranges

Buzzz (Discraft) 5 / 4 / -1 / 1 – Quite possibly the perfect midrange. The Buzzz is a straight flyer with a predictable gentle fade at the end of the flight. It is a straight flyer when thrown flat and will hold a variety of lines when thrown on different angles. The Buzzz is one of the all-time best-selling discs. Great for all players.

“These three Buzzz’s have added a lot to my game and I really love the versatility.”

Fairway Drivers

Scepter (Infinite Discs – Swirly S-Blend) 9 / 4 / 0 / 4 – The Scepter is a flat-top, overstable fairway driver for power throwers or for utility use to get around obstacles on the disc golf course. It is very comfortable for forehand use and will always fight out of anhyzer releases. You can count on the Scepter to slice through headwinds and to make a dramatic end-of-flight fade.

“I would compare it most to a Sexton Firebird. It’s a very controllable overstable fairway driver.”

Eagle (Innova – Star) 7 / 5 / 0 / 2 – The Eagle is a popular fairway driver used by players of all skill levels. This was Innova’s original high-speed fairway driver. It is a slightly overstable driver with a degree of high-speed turn.

“It’s pretty wind-resistant and it just feels good in my hand.”

Vengeance (Innova – Star) 10 / 5 / 0 / 2 – The Vengeance is a stable-overstable driver with a flat profile. Thrown by Drew Gibson, it has a comfortable feel and works for both backhand and forehand throwers.

“It’s a farther version of that more overstable TeeBird…It’s a good compliment to my Wraith.”

TeeBird (Innova – Star) 7 / 5 / 0 / 2 – The Tee Bird is a popular and dependable straight-flying fairway driver. It has a dependable finish
and is made to carve lines down fairways. The TeeBird has great glide for getting that long straight push down the fairway.

“This is one of the straightest flying discs in my bag when I’m throwing it hard.”

Distance Drivers

Emperor (Infinite Discs) 12 / 5 / -1 / 2.5 – The Infinite Discs Emperor is a moderately overstable, powerful distance driver that you will need to enhance the accuracy of your distance game. It will hold the line you put it on and has a very reliable fade at the end of flight.

“I like this disc for long bomb shots that need to go far and left.”

Destroyer (Innova – Star) 12 / 5 / -1 / 3 – Possibly the most popular distance driver amongst experienced players, the Destroyer is a high-speed overstable distance driver. This disc is Ricky Wysocki’s go-to driver. It was the first 12 speed driver. The Destroyer is great in headwinds and has a predictable hard fade at the end of its flight. It is extremely torque resistant so big arms will love this disc.

“I love this disc so much it’s been a go-to in my bag for two or three years now.”

Slab (Infinite Discs) 12 / 3 / 0 / 4 – The Slab is a high-speed, very overstable distance driver with a flat top and wide rim. The Slab
is designed for power throwers who want a disc that still fades, no matter how hard it is thrown. This disc works wonders for spike hyzer throws, strong forehand throws, as a wind fighter, or as a utility disc when you need to fade hard around obstacles.

“This is something where if it’s super windy or if I need to go way up over a tree I just throw this disc way up high and I know it’s going to be trying to dive to the ground.”

Wraith (Innova – Star) 11 / 5 / -1 / 3 – The Wraith is a stable, long-distance driver featuring good speed, fantastic amounts of glide, and pinpoint accuracy. It can be used by players of all skill levels.

“This is definitely a go-to disc for me…It’s found a solid place in my bag for inbetween a distance driver and a fairway driver shot.”
